The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 times a week. Although 30 minutes is only a fraction of the day – busy schedules can still get in the way.
5 tips to incorporate movement into your daily activities
Let’s incorporate 30 minutes of exercise into your daily routine
1. Make household chores count: mop the floor, scrub the bathroom, or do some gardening to get your heart pumping and strengthen your muscles.
2. Be active while watching TV: do strength exercises with hand weights or a stretch band, ride a stationary bike or stretch while watching your favourite show.
3. Ramp-up usual activities: take the stairs, get off the bus/train a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way to your destination, visit the grocery store instead of ordering online, or walk and talk during meetings.
4. Pick an exercise you can do anywhere, anytime: bodyweight exercises, running, rope jumping, and yoga can be done even on a business trip or at home when you’ve missed your gym class because of a late meeting.
5. Make a schedule and stick to it: make exercise a priority. If something unexpected gets in the way, have a backup plan as you would for any important business meeting or family commitment.
